Restaurant Promotion Idea #15:- Halloween Specials

Halloween Theme Party

Halloween like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day is another festival that is currently being commerlized by businesses especially those related to Food and Beverage. Instead of doing it on the Halloween day like most establishments, we held our ipromotion for a week and on the Halloween’s Day we made it really grand. As with most of my promotions in this blog, below is a simple account on how we organised our Halloween Week. Hope if it will be of some help for your establishment.

Halloween Cocktails

First of all we needed to have cocktails. A word of advise when creating cocktails for promotions, avoid using heavy juices, cream or milk. Reason being these heavy juices will make your customers full, therefore they will avoid ordering another one. Also don’t make too strong, as customers will be too drunk to order another. You can search the World Wide Web for cocktail ideas. What I normally do when searching for ideas for a promotions is to go to any site even ones that talks about how to organise Hallooween parties at home. Some of the ideas can be used or modified to suit your establishment. A great site that I happen to come across is Just click here to view it’s one interesting cocktail called the Brain Hemmorage.
You don’t even have to purchase expensive garnishes, you can create some with simple things around. Just buy cookie cutter shaped like a ghost or skeleton. Cut thin slices of honeydew melon or other fruit that doesn’t break easily that is white or cream in colour. Use the cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Create dark red cocktails and float a ghostly garnish on top of it. The website have a granish that is created from lychee, black olives and some red food colouring to make eye balls. Its really gross and simple to do. I have recently come across anothet great websitehat features 50 Halloween Cocktails. The website is 50 BOO-zy Halloween Cocktails to Get You Turnt

Halloween Decorations

There is alot of Hallooween decorations for home websites that you can use. Just choose your theme. You don’t have to do the normally ghostly house, just do something different. As our Pub had a Pirate Theme, we chose the Theme from the Flying Dutchman of the Pirates of the Carribean Series. The entrance was shaped like a scene from a ghostly pirate cave. Staff was dressed in Ghostly Pirate Costumes. We even played ghostly piped organ music. Just think what’s your theme is and search the web. You can even go a step furtherby offering a discount to anyone that comes dressed as the theme. Try this website for some ideas

Halloween Games
To add more fun to your promotion just add some fun games. Listed below are sites where you can find some interesting pub games to try. If you have an adult pub (what I mean is if your clientele are mainly adults not families), then add some games for couples to make it fun. We had a couple game where we tied a large sausage in the middle and hung it up. Each couple had to start eating at each end. the couple that finished the sausage is the winner. Another was the toilet seat toss. We put a road cone on the dance floor measured the distance and gave three toilet seat for the guest to throw into the cone. the winner is the one with the highest number of toilet seats around the cone.
Or you can also watch sme game show like a gameshow using household items “A Minute to Win It”. You can search the show on YouTube. I found it to be really interesting and simple to organise.

Halloween Flyers
I my last post Free Restaurant Templates, I found a website that has a great Halloween poster. The website is called They have a eent menu templates that you can redesign to suit your promotion. You can also add anyone that comes dressed as in a Halloween Costume will get drinks at a special price.

Theme Parties are fun to do. It also will create a buzz on the social networks when guest post their pictures or write something in their blog on the fun they had in your place. Do drop by often for more Restaurant Promo Ideas.

Watch Television especailly Restaurant Reality Shows – Restaurant Promotion Ideas # 7

Watch Reality Shows

If you look around, there are restaurant promotion ideas everywhere that you can use. On way is to watch Television especailly Restaurant Reality Shows on your 4k tv. Such as Restaurant Impossible or Restaurant Makeover for ideas.

One great media that I have mentioned my previous post Restaurant Promotion – Some Ideas from the Web is the World Wide Web. Another media that have helped me with some of my promotional ideas is what some people call “The Idiot Box“. For those that is not sure what I mean, its “The Television“. I know it’s shocking to find out that even a workaholic like me waste time in front of the television. I am also aware that this goes against what our parents told us when we were small. Watching lesser TV, study or work harder will sure to lead us to success. But like the saying goes “All Work and No
Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy

Reality Shows To Watch

My preference is normally reality shows. Most of this reality shows bring out the ugly side of people. But there some shows if you cut out the backbiting and ugliness of human nature, can have great learning benefits. One such show that I loved to watch was “The Apprentice“, the show with Donald Trump. The show is about contestants working in teams at projects in order to be the last one standing to be “The Apprentice” for Donald Trump, to learn under his mentorship. He may be a tough task master but what he is showing you is real life. It’s a jungle out there and the only way to survive is to be the fittest and the most innovative. There is one episode that is an example to what you can learn from reality shows. It was the one when each team had to promote a product using a limited amount of money in a limited area. One team used all their money to put up advertisements at the back horse drawn carriages that ply a certain route. As promoting on horse drawn carriages was expensive, they managed to get only 10 carriages. And also carriages ply on the streets, so only people who are travelling on the streets will notice the ad. What another team did was to put ads on sandwich boards carried by people walking around. Promoting on sandwich boards were much cheaper, they managed to get 50 sandwich boards moving around the town. And sandwich board can move around among people and on sidewalks. So from there you can see who had the most coverage. From this episode I learnt that if I put up one banner, how strategic the location may be. You will only capture a certain amount of coverage. But if you put up buntings around you will capture more people. They might miss one but if there is a lot around town they will sure to notice a few. And I have also learnt that the overhead for putting up 30 buntings is the same as putting up one banner. So now I put up more buntings.

Another great reality show that I love to watch is “Restaurant Makeover“. It has a lot of ideas on how to design a restaurant. And the ideas are very simple and done tastefully. This Reality Show is about two people (a designer and a chef) helping people to revise and revitalize their restaurant. Some of the restaurants are so bad but after the “Restaurant Makeover” team get through with it, you will see a major change. The “Restaurant Makeover” team has only 6 days to redesign the restaurant with a new menu and design with only a limited amount of money. The ideas that come out are great and simple and also don’t take too much money. I have also learnt that you don’t need a large menu to attract people just a small one with all your specialties. You can always come out with monthly specials, with items purchased from the local markets. In this way it ensures that your item is fresh and you don’t have to keep much stock in hand.

Reality Shows To Avoid

But saying all that, I avoid reality shows like “Hell`s Kitchen”. Reason is I believe that all staff no matter what their background or education should be treated well and constantly motivated. In this way they will succeed. People shouldn`t be treated like they are a complete idiot just because you are a great chef. Your employees are the best people to promote your restaurant. So remember, if you take care of them they will inturn take care of you and your restaurant.

How to Collect Email Address for your Restaurant – Restaurant Promotion Ideas #6

Promotion Ideas #6. Collecting Addresses

Here is a simple way of how to collect email address for your restaurant.

There are numerous Websites or Software on the World Wide Web that can help you collect email addresses that you can use to email your latest food promotion or newsletters. But how do you get addresses from people that is already dinning in your restaurant or your function halls if they don`t have business cards. We were faced with a similar problem in our outlets. But like the saying goes “Problems are only guidepost to a solution”. After going out and meeting people, we managed to secure quite a number of dinners and gatherings. You can find out how we did this in my previous post. So naturally the organizers of the functions got on our mailing list. But the list was really small as we could only see a few people at one time. What we failed to see was that we had a large number of potential customers attending these functions.

How I Collected Addresses for Mailing of Specials and Newsletters

After realizing this, we brainstorm on ways to collect addresses and thus increasing our mailing list.
What we needed was to offer something that will entice people to sign up, such as occasional special offers or discounts. We created a card where the guest can fill in their details. We created it as simple as possible cause people are more likely to join your mailing list if they can do it quickly and easily.
Before the function we got permission from the organizer first, if it’s possible for us to put our cards with lucky draw bowl at their registration table. Always get permission first, reason being you don`t want to offend the one person who is currently supporting you. For the winner of the lucky draw you can offer anything from hampers to vouchers. While the dinner is going on, you can do the draw.

What to do with the Addresses

Keep all the cards and do a monthly draw, with these you can also invite the lucky winners to sample your latest promotion. You can also get their honest opinion how they find the promotion when they come and redeem their prize. With this you can improve whatever needs improving before the bulk of the paying customers come. Also the winners will tell their friends that they got a prize from your establishment. Who doesn`t like to win something.
But when you get the mailing list, make sure you conduct your email or mailing campaigns the right way. Make sure you don’t use spam or junk mail type approaches or you will lose your creditability. Instead of only mailing brochures you can attach a signed letter by you. This will give a more personal impression. By doing this we doubled our mailing list. Now I have purchased a stamp with a copy of my signature, so as we can stamp my signature on the letters that we mail out. Nowadays I have more addresses to mail my latest promotion.

Restaurant Promotion – Some Ideas from the Web

Promo Ideas from the Web

The World Wide Web is loaded with blogs giving you restaurant promotion ideas that you can use. Formerly if we needed creative ideas, we had to look through or purchase lots of magazines to see what others were doing. It was really time consuming and some of ideas cannot be used. Reason being you will be labeled a copycat, as the other restaurant in your area is doing the same thing. To me the World Wide Web is the greatest invention to men. You can get billions upon billions of information at your fingertips. Further more some of the ideas are from other part of the world so you can use it without worrying people labeling you a copycat. You can even search for a specific promotional idea that you need. That is why I like to search the web for an idea to my current promotion. Below are some of the ideas that I feel is workable.

Workable Ideas from the Web

# 1. Bounce back Idea
If you have slow months after busy months then this promotional idea is a great idea to fill up the slow months. First prepare vouchers on items that you want to give to your customers to entice them to come back on the slow months. It can be items ranging from discounts to free entrée or desserts. Then put all vouchers in a bowl at the cashier’s counter. Set a target for a customer to spend on a single bill. When he reaches the amount, invite him over to the cashier’s counter or bring the bowl to him. Ask him to pull a voucher to be used when he returns next month. The voucher is only valid for the slow month.

# 2. Frequent Diner Passport
This is a great activity if you have buffet every night and is even better if its set to a theme country, then you can call it “Around the World buffet”. Create a passport or something similar and hand out to potential customers. Everytime the customer eats the buffet, stamp a part of the voucher. Set a target of how many stamps that the customer needs to have for him to get a free dinner. You can call it your “Frequent Diner Program“. To make it even better your staff can be dressed as flight attendants.

# 3. Employee Marketing Challenge
Your staff is your best marketers. With their help you can reach more people. What you need is to challenge them to bring in the people. One way is to create vouchers for them distribute. Create different colour vouchers maybe a hundred each. Hand it to your staff to distribute. Allocate one colour to one staff. Challenge them by saying that the most vouchers that comes back, the winner will receive a prize. This is to ensure your staff hands over the voucher to people who will come and dine. The items on the vouchers can range from discounts to free entree. The choice is yours but make it fun for staff. You can call the vouchers “Privilege Diner” vouchers and can get your staff to sign the vouchers, so as the staff will feel important.
